Irish Whiskey Academy

Of all the hundreds if not thousands of things I’ve written about over the years, yeast is probably one of the smallest. But it still deserves to be treated with the utmost respect. As any distiller knows.

Commissioned by the Irish Whiskey Academy – the centre of excellence in Irish whiskey education – this short film first introduces our little friend Saccharomyces Cerevisiae (Distiller’s Yeast for short), then explains the all-important role it plays in the fermentation process. Aimed at an audience that takes its whisky seriously but not necessarily life itself, the copy is technical, engaging and entertaining in equal measures.

Look out for the spent yeast graveyard towards the end – a lovely touch from Contagious who produced the film.
