Last year, I was lucky enough to visit some of the world’s best bars, including The Dead Rabbit and Dante in NYC, Thirteen, The Gothic Bar and Lyaness (nearly) in London and Edinburgh’s Panda & Sons.
Looking at my admittedly amateur pics afterwards got me thinking: Why don’t more bars include imagery on their cocktail menus? We eat with our eyes. Don’t we drink with them too?
The little beauty shown is a Morning Fury, one of Thirteen’s Signature Cocktails.

How could you resist it? My wife couldn’t.
So, why don’t more cocktail menus feature imagery?
Is it because the menu would become too big and off-putting, too pricey to produce or too difficult to update?
Is it because imagery might favour some cocktails over others? It’s hard to imagine a classic margarita or negroni, for example, competing visually with Thirteen’s Morning Fury.
You wouldn’t have to feature every cocktail either, of course. But by showcasing a dozen or so signature cocktails, wouldn’t it encourage more people to give them a try?
